Burnley have completed the signing of Marcus Edwards on loan from Sporting until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old winger reunites with Scott Parker from his time in Tottenham Hotspur's Academy ranks as a youngster.

“It feels amazing," he said. "Burnley is like a Premier League club. I’m really happy to be here.

“I know Scott from my time at Spurs. I know what he’s like. He’s ambitious, he’s driven. We had a good relationship back then so when I knew he wanted me to come that was enough for me.”

“From knowing what he’s like and how he is and the fact that Burnley is such a big club in general. It made sense.

“The main thing now is to get promoted back to the Premier League. I’m coming here to try and get myself into the team. I hope we can make it over the line this season and I hope Burnley fans will enjoy watching me play too.”

Edwards joined Spurs' ranks at the age of eight and went on to have loan spells at Norwich and Excelsior.

He headed to Portugal in 2019 to sign for Vitória de Guimarães, where he played alongside Lyle Foster.

The winger's impressive performances earned a move to Sporting two-and-a-half-years later and he has scored 24 goals in 120 games in Lisbon.

Edwards becomes the Clarets' fourth signing of the January window after Oliver Sonne, Ashley Barnes and Jonjo Shelvey as Parker's side battle for promotion back to the Premier League.

Burnley are back in Championship action on Tuesday night when they welcome Oxford to Turf Moor.
